EXT. MICHAEL MYERS' HOUSE - HADDONFIELD, ILLINOIS

TITLE IN: HADDONFIELD, OCTOBER 31st, 1995

A few cops and three police cruisers have barricaded the Michael Myers house. The house's front door swings open and out comes DR. SAM LOOMIS, looking very haggard and wearing a bloodied tan raincoat. He holds a severed masked head held in one hand, and a gun in the other. SHERIFF HUNT, formerly DEPUTY HUNT, YELLS at LOOMIS.

SHERIFF HUNT: (pointing his gun at LOOMIS) "Put down your gun, Dr. Loomis, now!"

DR. SAM LOOMIS: (Mumbling) "I've killed the monster. I've killed the curse."

SHERIFF HUNT: "I repeat, put down your gun, Dr. Loomis."

DR. SAM LOOMIS: "Why? I've killed the curse. I saved Haddonfield."

SHERIFF HUNT: "Dr. Loomis! We found Michael Myers' body! This man you've just killed is not Michael!"

DR. SAM LOOMIS: (Agitated, looking at the head with the infamous mask) "Impossible. I've killed the evil! I saved your town!"

SHERIFF HUNT: "Loomis! Put down the gun! Now!"

FADE OUT

INT. HADDONFIELD COURT HOUSE

Inside the courtroom, it is a full house of Haddonfield's citizens, shouting and hollering at the judge and the town's council members. The gavel is brought down to bring order to the court. DR. SAM LOOMIS is seen, seated in a wheelchair next to his attorney.

JUDGE: "It is the court's decision that Dr. Sam Loomis be confined to Smith's Grove Sanitarium for the remainder of his life, pending (chatter heard), quiet please. Pending a further investigation into the unfortunate death of Jonathan Myers, no relation to Michael Myers or any member of his family. Michael Myers' body has been confined to an undisclosed site for further study."

More CHATTER and RUMBLING is heard in the court.

JUDGE: "There will be quiet in the court!" (Pause as the noise suddenly stops) JUDGE motions to SHERIFF HUNT to approach the podium.

SHERIFF HUNT: "After a unanimous vote by the council members, myself, and the judge, we have determined that the holiday of Halloween no longer be celebrated in Haddonfield. We have tried this before in 1989 and to no avail. We will not acknowledge nor observe this pagan holiday. We also feel that the town of Haddonfield will cease to exist on any single map. We intend to let the government institute martial law on this town. Anyone who feels otherwise can move - nobody will think less of you if you relocate to Pontiac or any other neighboring town." (More CHATTER is heard)

INT. SMITH'S GROVE - DAY.

Two hospital workers wheel DR. SAM LOOMIS into the white room and shut the door. DR. LOOMIS looks up at the small window above him, looking stone faced and inexpressive.

DR. SAM LOOMIS: (Crookedly smiling) "I'll find you Michael. Someday, I will find you."

Outside the door of his room and through the window, a glimpse of NURSE MARION CHAMBERS can be seen. She watches DR. LOOMIS, smoking a cigarette and shaking her head.

EXT. OLD ILLINOIS ROUTE 66 - DAY.

TITLE IN: OUTSIDE HADDONFIELD, OLD ILLINOIS ROUTE 66 - OCTOBER 30TH, 2010

A news van is seen driving through the somewhat desolate Route 66, which has mostly flat plains on the sides of the road.

INT. NEWS VAN - DAY.

JESSICA CRANE, a 39-year-old TV news reporter from Chicago, is driving the van with her videographer, DICK, and her sound engineer, DALE. JESSICA CRANE has longish dark auburn hair with reddish highlights, wears sunglasses, and has a celtic cross around her neck, wearing mostly black attire. DICK is a 25-year-old videographer who doesn't say much, always recording with his DV camera. DALE is a 35-year-old man, goateed, and smarter and more loquacious than DICK.

JESSICA: "I can't believe that we missed the road. It should've been no more than 2 miles from the tracks. Where is it?"

DICK is busy filming the landscape through the van windows. DALE is seated in the back looking through the map while JESSICA drives.

DALE: "We couldn't have just missed it!"

JESSICA: "Well, we did. And the damn GPS is not picking up much of anything. It is as if Haddonfield no longer exists."

JESSICA notices an old smoke shop, the only place that can be seen for miles along this stretch of road.

JESSICA: (pointing at smoke shop) "We'll pull in here and ask for directions."

DALE: "What if Haddonfield doesn't want to be found?"

JESSICA: "You are perceptive Dale. But a whole town can't just disappear out of thin air, can it?"

JESSICA pulls in and gets out of van.

JESSICA: "Wait here."

DICK swings his camera around and films JESSICA entering the smoke shop. DALE continues looking at his map.

INT. CRAVEN'S SMOKE SHOP - DAY.

JESSICA enters the shop, noticing the dim lighting and no patrons. An owner appears from the back of the shop. He is a crusty old man, thick white mustache, red lumber shirt and white suspenders.

OLD MAN: "How can I help you lady?"

JESSICA: "Yes, I was wondering-"

OLD MAN: "Wait, wait, wait. I know you from somewhere. Where have I seen you before? Maybe on TV?"

JESSICA: "Possibly."

OLD MAN: "All kinds of people wander in here, from all over the world. Even the President."

JESSICA: "Look, I would like to cut to the chase. I am looking for a town."

OLD MAN: "All kinds of towns for the next fifty to a hundred miles. If you need a motel room for a little hanky-panky, uh, heh, heh."

JESSICA: "No, I am looking for the town of Haddonfield. I've got the map here (opening the map booklet) but I can't find it. Our GPS is not working-"

OLD MAN: "Oh (Pause) dear God. The town of Haddonfield?"

JESSICA: "Yes."

OLD MAN: "No, missy, the town of Haddonfield is dead and buried. It is a thing of the past. You are a little late but-hey! (Looking at JESSICA'S eyes, which turn bright green when the shafts of light from the windows catches them) I know you! You are that reporter! The one who destroyed the town of Haddonfield two years ago! Making that shameful documentary on that damn Michael Myers! That is you, isn't it?"

JESSICA: "Yes, regrettably."

OLD MAN: "You should be ashamed of yourself! Get out of my store!"

JESSICA: (Her green eyes become more focused on the OLD MAN) "I am not leaving until you tell me how to get to Haddonfield."

INT. NEWS VAN - DAY.

JESSICA CRANE gets in van and shuts the driver door. DICK and DALE look at each other and DALE looks at JESSICA.

DALE: "So?"

JESSICA: "We are in luck. We are looking for a bridge, down by the bypass." (SMILES)

EXT. HADDONFIELD BYPASS/ROAD BLOCK - DAY.

The news van arrives at a road block by the bypass. A bridge is seen past the road block. Three Army soldiers with rifles are at the road block. One of them is a slightly heavier man, a SERGEANT RAMSEY, who approaches the van on the driver's side. DICK is filming the sergeant the whole time. JESSICA glances up at the SERGEANT.

SERGEANT RAMSEY: "This bridge is blocked off to all civilians (looks down at his watch) for the next forever. State your business here, missy."

JESSICA: "Blocked? I've been here before."

SERGEANT RAMSEY: "Unlikely. Nobody leaves from this bridge and nobody enters it. State your name and business in these parts."

JESSICA: "You watch TV much?"

SERGEANT RAMSEY: "Only read, missy. TV is poison."

JESSICA: "A shame you think that. TV has done some good since it first burst onto the scene. (Pause) Anyways, I am Jessica Crane, a Chicago TV reporter and I am doing a new piece on the town of Haddonfield."

SERGEANT RAMSEY: (Smiling, knowing immediately who she is) "First of all, you are persona non grata in these parts. Secondly, Haddonfield no longer exists. We call it Town X for short - it has been under martial law for the last fifteen years."

JESSICA: "Martial law? Well, nobody told me this-"

SERGEANT RAMSEY: "-you have got to get out more. Listen, you are not wanted here, miss! Got it? Now leave this area. That is a direct order!"

JESSICA: "Perhaps I am needed in this town, ever think about that? Whatever happened to hospitality. (Looks at the other men at the road block and shoots a look back at the SERGEANT) Look, rather than have me expunged from your town, why don't we settle this peacefully? Perhaps, I'll scratch your back while you scratch mine." (SMILES with a devilish grin, EXTREME CLOSE-UP on her green eyes)

EXT. MAIN ROAD LEADING TO HADDONFIELD - DAY.

The news van is driving past a road that seems worn down, just after passing through the bridge. Not much color in the trees with no leaves. They pass a sign that reads: 'NO GUNS, CELL PHONES, KNIVES OR DRUGS PAST THIS POINT. THAT IS THE LAW'

DALE: "How the hell did you convince that sergeant to let us pass?"

JESSICA: "My charm, what else?"

DICK films the lifeless trees they pass alongside the road.

DALE: (Looking out the window) "There is not much life out here."

Suddenly, they pass a rolling fog bank. It is almost as if they are entering another world. The trees suddenly seem lively with fallen dried leaves on the road once they pass the fog bank. Some of the houses they pass are boarded up, and some are brimming with life. As the van drives past the fog, we pan over to another road, gated with a small fence, almost covered by brush and many trees. This road leads to a secret military installation, a place known as HANGAR 68.

EXT. HANGAR 68 - DAY.

Military installation is gated with high wire fence. Some soldiers surround it, as jeeps drive by.

INT. BASE HEADQUARTERS - HANGAR 68 - DAY.

Three scientists are in the headquarters. Two are female, HENDRICKS and NOEL, and one is male, BRYANT. They are seated in a white room, wearing white lab clothes, monitoring a metal sarcophagus of sorts. It is viewable through video monitors. The sarcophagus is housed in a room made of titanium steel known as BLOCK 13.

HENDRICKS: "Did you hear that Jessica Crane might try to come back to Haddonfield? If she is lucky in finding it..."

NOEL: (NOEL shoots a look at HENDRICKS while studying a spreadsheet) "How on earth did you find that out?"

HENDRICKS: "Well, someone from upstairs happened to mention it to me."

NOEL: "Really? Do tell."

HENDRICKS: "She is bringing a small crew with her. But they will never find it. Hell, I live in Haddonfield and sometimes I get lost. (Sipping coffee) God, this coffee sucks."

NOEL: "It is gourmet. You wouldn't know a good cup if it hit you over the head. And don't use the word 'sucks'. Can't you use another synonym, you Harvard alum, you."

AN ALARM GOES OFF, almost a SIREN sound.

BRYANT: "Guys, we got a situation here!"

HENDRICKS: (whispering) "Awesome."

NOEL: "What happened?"

BRYANT: "Block 13's alarm went off."

NOEL: "Block 13? That is Michael Myers's room. How can that be? I don't see anything wrong with it."

BRYANT: "Let's get over there, right away! Hendricks! Stay here!"

HENDRICKS: "You got it."

BRYANT and NOEL exit the room.

HENDRICKS receives a phone call. She answers it.

HENDRICKS: "Yeah, I don't know. Something to do with Block 13. They're checking it out."

The ALARM gets louder.

INT. HALLWAY LEADING TO BLOCK 13

BRYANT and NOEL race down the hallway to BLOCK 13. BRYANT punches in the password and the door opens.

INT. BLOCK 13 - ADJACENT ROOM.

BRYANT and NOEL enter the room. They come up to the BLOCK 13 entrance, peering through the window. They observe that a hand suddenly PUSHES the lid off the sarcophagus.

NOEL SCREAMS as she can't believe what she is witnessing.

BRYANT: "That's impossible! Michael Myers was nothing but a bag of bones when they first contained him!"

A mist starts to form around the sarcophagus. There is a long pause. A figure jumps out. NOEL SCREAMS again. This figure is naked, with bloody hands, veins popping out of its legs, and reddish eyes that pop out of the mist, almost forming a red vapor around its head. It jumps at the entrance door, crashing through it and pushing BRYANT and NOEL clear across the room. NOEL gets up, slightly conscious and notices BRYANT is completely unconscious. This figure approaches NOEL and she SCREAMS again. His naked wet feet can be seen taking one step at a time. SIREN gets louder and louder as it approaches NOEL. NOEL SCREAMS again as the figure's hands get around her throat.

FADE OUT

EXT. HADDONFIELD TOWN SQUARE - DAY.

DALE: "I guess I was wrong."

JESSICA: "Haddonfield never died. Everyone moves forward eventually."

The news van drives through Haddonfield Town Square. There are no Halloween decorations anywhere, no pumpkins, nothing to remind one of the holiday. As they are driving, there are onlookers with disturbed looks stepping out of the front porches of their homes, and others stepping out of neighborhood stores since no news van had been driven through their town in a few years. The news van parks on the side street facing the square. JESSICA gets out of the van, observing that a group of people are huddled together with a PRIEST saying the names of people whom she immediately recognizes. DICK grabs his camera and DALE grabs his sound board and microphone.

PRIEST: (reading off of a list of the dead) "Tommy Doyle, Alice Moore, Ben Tramer, Annie Brackett, Lynda Van der Klok, Rachel Carruthers..."

DICK: "Look." (Motioning at some silent protesters carrying signs that say 'SATAN DID THIS TO YOU' and 'PAGANISM IS EVIL' They are standing a few feet away).

JESSICA looks in their direction then looks back at the mourning group. She begins to get teary-eyed. Someone's hand touches her shoulder. JESSICA turns around and it is LEIGH BRACKETT, wearing a sheriff's uniform. He is heavier-set, white-haired and a white mustache.

LEIGH BRACKETT: "What do think you are doing here? This is a private ceremony. Show some respect. Now go back with your own group."

PRIEST: "Laurie Strode...and the Strode family, the Meekers, Samantha Thomas, Tina Williams..."

LEIGH almost turns his back on JESSICA, pauses, recognizing JESSICA's face and those green eyes.

LEIGH BRACKETT: "I know you. You are that damn reporter from Chicago-"

JESSICA: "Mr. Brackett, I can explain-"

LEIGH BRACKETT: "How the hell did you get in town? No one can come in here!"

JESSICA: "Mr. Brackett! Sheriff Brackett is it?"

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Pause) "Yes, Sheriff. Now you mind telling me how the hell you got into town past the goddamn road block?"

JESSICA: "Listen, Sheriff. I am here to help your people. To relieve some of the pain, the anguish they have been facing for the past fifteen years."

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Sarcastic smile) "Really? You want to relieve some pain? These good citizens were exploited by you, by your filthy Hollywood game!" (Almost turns his back on her until she pulls his shoulder)

JESSICA: "Mr. Brackett, please. Can we talk?"

LEIGH BRACKETT: "Why should I talk to scum like you?" (Throws disgusted looks at DICK and DALE)

JESSICA turns to the protesters and we see a CLOSE-UP of JESSICA's green eyes. The protesters look at JESSICA and appear frightened by her, and slowly walk away.

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Staring at the protesters with a dumbfounded look) "In the last fifteen years, I've never seen such a thing in my life. How the hell did you make them walk away?"

JESSICA: "Because there is worse media scum out there than me."

INT. HADDONFIELD CAFE - MIDDAY.

JESSICA CRANE is seated at a table with LEIGH BRACKETT. DICK and DALE sit at a nearby table. A WAITRESS comes over to get an order.

WAITRESS: "Hello Sheriff, what will it be?"

LEIGH throws a smile at WAITRESS

LEIGH BRACKETT: "Two coffees. Nothing else."

WAITRESS writes down the order and shoots a glance at JESSICA CRANE smiling. JESSICA smiles back and the WAITRESS slowly frowns and walks away.

LEIGH BRACKETT: "So...what brings you to Haddonfield."

JESSICA: "I want to make a new documentary about your town."

LEIGH BRACKETT: "Jesus, don't you think you've created enough trauma for these people."

JESSICA: "I will not exploit them. I merely want to film them telling their stories."

LEIGH BRACKETT: "So now you are Dr. Phil. You exploited the murders! You trivialized the victims and their families! You made Michael Myers into some sort of sick media antihero!" (Patrons of the cafe shoot a look at LEIGH)

WAITRESS comes over with two coffees.

WAITRESS: "Leigh, is she being a problem? I'll call the base if she is being a problem."

LEIGH BRACKETT: "No, it is fine, really. It is fine"

WAITRESS walks away.

JESSICA: "Sheriff, may I call you Leigh?"

LEIGH BRACKETT: "You may."

JESSICA signals to DALE to bring her a manila envelope.

JESSICA: "This might interest you. (Hands LEIGH the envelope) You see Leigh, my coming here to Haddonfield has got little to do with making a documentary, although we are prepared to make such a film. No, I am here because I need to find my grandfather."

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Opening envelope) "Your grandfather? I don't recall a family by the name of Crane living in these parts."

JESSICA: "You see Leigh, my last name is not Crane. It is Loomis."

LEIGH BRACKETT: "Loomis? As in Dr. Sam Loomis?"

JESSICA: "Yes, you'll find the proof in there. I found out I was adopted about a year ago. My real mother was Joyce Loomis, Dr. Sam Loomis's daughter."

LEIGH BRACKETT: "I don't recall Dr. Loomis ever having a daughter, let alone a granddaughter" (Examining the file in the envelope)

JESSICA: "It is true. I was adopted when I was six months old. Marion Chambers, also known as Marion Crane, adopted me, protecting me from the death threats my grandfather received, from people in your own town I might add."

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Looks up at JESSICA then back down at the file) "Okay, so you are Dr. Sam Loomis's granddaughter. So what of it?"

JESSICA: "My grandfather was last seen in Haddonfield and mysteriously disappeared."

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Puts down the file on the table) "Your grandfather did not disappear. He was committed to Smith's Grove Sanitarium. He was ill. He killed a poor young college kid named Jonathan Myers whom Loomis was convinced was Michael Myers. Loomis decapitated him. Loomis was then sent away and your adopted mother, Marion, took care of him till he died. As I am sure you know, Marion was killed by Michael Myers almost ten years ago."

JESSICA: "I know."

LEIGH BRACKETT: "So you see, the real villain in the end, the one that caused us so much distress was not just Michael Myers but your damn loony grandfather. May he rest in Hell."

JESSICA: (Looking positively angry) "Take that back!"

LEIGH BRACKETT: "Take it easy (He places his hand on hers and feels a distinct chill go up his spine. He retreats). No need to lose your marbles. If you lose it, you'll be as loony as anyone at Smith's Grove. (LEIGH hunches over the table and whispers) The people in this town are like zombies. They feel very little. Only on October 30th do you see any semblance of emotion. Just like that little ceremony on the square. (Pause) You know, I-I retired back many years ago, moved to Florida. But the Myers and Loomis menace continued. Ben Meeker took over as Sheriff and he was killed. I had to come back, for the town and for the people. I am Sheriff again and I can't get out of this town. It is a clever form of entrapment."

JESSICA: (Fighting back tears) "Tell me about Annie Brackett. In your words."

LEIGH shakes his head.

JESSICA: "Please, after damning my grandfather, it is the least you can do."

LEIGH BRACKETT: (Long pause as he is looking at JESSICA) "Fine, I'll say a few words and then you are gone, no more than a day after Halloween. I want you out of here, deal? (Whispering) Just be sure to take me with you. I gotta get outta here."

JESSICA: "Deal." (SNAPS her finger at DICK and DALE to set up camera and sound to film LEIGH)

LEIGH BRACKETT: "My daughter, Annie, was one of a kind. She had a bright enthusiasm for the future, her future, our future, her friends' future. She had a healthy dose of sarcasm, and I know she liked to sneak away and smoke some pot - I did too when I was her age. She was an honest, pure individual, wiser than her years would suggest. (Pause, as he clears his throat) And to think that Loomis and Myers took that purity and light away from her makes me angrier with each passing day. (Clenching his teeth) I damn Myers and Loomis. They have brought nothing but pain and sorrow to a prosperous town. (Takes a sip of his coffee) Are we done here?"

EXT. CHELSEA MOORE's HOUSE - MIDDAY.

The news van arrives in front of ALICE MOORE's house. It is a small house covered with vines. A carved pumpkin stands out in the front doorstep. It stands out because it is seemingly painted white. JESSICA CRANE, DICK and DALE step out of the van, slowly approaching the front doorstep. JESSICA motions to DICK and DALE to step back on the sidewalk. JESSICA rings the bell. The door opens and it is a woman with long black hair, CHELSEA MOORE, dressed in an orange sweater with a white pumpkin in its center.

CHELSEA MOORE: "Hello" (Looking withdrawn and nary a smile)

JESSICA: "Hello, are you Chelsea Moore?"

CHELSEA: "Yes."

JESSICA: "I am-"

CHELSEA: (A stern tone in her voice) "I know who you are. You're that reporter from Chicago who caused an uproar in this town a few years ago. Are you back to make a sequel to that exploitative piece of garbage?"

JESSICA: "I am in town to make a new documentary about the ills of Haddonfield - I want to do it from the perspective of the people. Not from Michael Myers' perspective."

CHELSEA: "That is commendable. (commenting with a hint of sarcasm) I applaud your gesture. (Pauses) So what do you want from me?"

JESSICA: "Your sister was Alice Moore? The one who was stabbed by Michael Myers on Halloween night in 1978?"

CHELSEA: "The very same. (Long pause) So you want to interview me?"

JESSICA: "Yes, if that is okay."

CHELSEA: "Fine, but no cameras. I want to speak with you first, then maybe you can record me, okay?"

JESSICA: "Sure. (Looks back at DICK and DALE) Can my crew come in, just to observe?"

CHELSEA: "Yes, they may."

CHELSEA looks back at DICK and DALE with surprise. This was too easy.

INT. CHELSEA MOORE's HOUSE - MIDDAY.

JESSICA, DICK and DALE enter CHELSEA's house. The walls are bare in the living room except for one section that has African masks. And there is curiously a Michael Myers mask hanging as well. JESSICA notices it and chooses not to ask.

CHELSEA: "This (pointing the living room) is where my sister was stabbed. The door was left open so we assume she left the door open for Michael Myers to enter." (DICK begins filming the room, panning the entire living room)

CHELSEA walks down the hallway leading to the kitchen. She sits at the table and motions to JESSICA to sit. DICK and DALE stay behind in the living room.

CHELSEA: "What do you want to know?"

JESSICA: "Tell me about your sister, Alice. She was 18 at the time, right?"

CHELSEA: "Yes, she was. Her, I mean, our parents were out of town that night. Of course, they didn't go too far but they couldn't come back into Haddonfield easily because blockades were set up - the police was looking for Michael Myers. I stayed at a friend's house that night so Alice could be all alone, waiting to party or something, I don't recall what exactly. She was a bit of nerd but she did hang out with some of the pot-smokers."

JESSICA: "Did she know Laurie Strode or Annie Brackett or Lynda van der Klok?"

CHELSEA: "She knew of them, but she did not hang out with them."

JESSICA: "Anything else you wish to relay about your sister? Anything you can remember?"

CHELSEA: (Turning her head to her bedroom) "Yes, as a matter of fact, there is. Come."

JESSICA follows CHELSEA to the bedroom. As she enters, JESSICA sees two walls of her bedroom adorned with nothing but photos of ALICE MOORE, some are various copies of the same photo and others are different photos with the age printed in black numbers on all of them. JESSICA is spooked by what she sees.

EXT. CHELSEA MOORE's HOUSE - LATE AFTERNOON.

JESSICA CRANE is sitting on a rock facing a creek alongside the backyard of the house. She is crying uncontrollably, covering her face. DALE walks over to her.

DALE: "Jessica, are you okay?"

JESSICA wipes the tears from her face.

JESSICA: "Yes, I am fine. (Looks up at DALE) I don't think there is anything we can do for these people except listen. I am not sure we should record them."

DALE: "You know what you are saying? It is easier to film the killer's torment than the people inflicted by the torment."

JESSICA: "Maybe so. Maybe every reporter in this country can face the same challenge. (She gets up) But the pain is too great - I feel for Chelsea and her pain. And she is so remote, so far removed from all this trauma."

DALE: "How about that mask, huh?"

JESSICA: "I cannot believe she has that mask. Why would she keep that?"

DALE: "Maybe she can't let go - maybe she needs a memento. Who knows?"

JESSICA and DALE walk back to the van. They notice DICK is nowhere to be found.

JESSICA: "Where the heck is he? Did he stay inside the house?"

DALE: "No, I saw him come out and I thought he headed back to the van."

JESSICA: "We will drive around the block and look for him. Maybe he is recording some footage around the neighborhood. He is so very dedicated."

DALE heads into the van. JESSICA stands still, suddenly feeling a strange presence as she stands on the sidewalk and turns around and sees a familiar figure near the bushes. It looks like Michael Myers - same height but the mask looks somewhat misshapen and with a greenish tint, though eerily the same, and he is dressed in camouflage gear. JESSICA walks to the bushes and sees Michael Myers walk around the bushes to where he can't be seen.

JESSICA: "Excuse me?"

As JESSICA approaches the bushes, she looks around the corner and sees no one. A hand clasps her shoulder. JESSICA turns around and is shaken. It is SHERIFF BRACKETT.

JESSICA: "Jesus, did you have to scare me like that?"

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "Sorry Ms. Loomis. Just checking up on you. We have to talk."

JESSICA: "Fine, I have one more stop to make for today."

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "Do it tomorrow. We have to talk now!"

JESSICA: "Fine, but I need a place to rest."

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "I'll find a place for you and your friend."

SHERIFF BRACKETT and JESSICA both see a caravan of cars up the road. They are making lots of noise, with people parading up and down the street dressed up in Halloween costumes. Out of the corner of BRACKETT's eye, he sees a few residents in their homes putting out carved pumpkins and hanging decorations.

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "What in the hell is going on?"

A megaphone can be heard in the distance. It says, "Trick or treat. We are celebrating Halloween tomorrow. By the allowance of the city council, Halloween will be celebrated. People from all over are coming into town. Be ready Haddonfield for the best Halloween event ever!"

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "Is this a joke? (Pause) Wait a second, I know that voice. That is Marley the Magnificent. How the hell did he get into town?"

BRACKETT looks at JESSICA.

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "Let's go. You are coming with me. Not letting you out of my sight."

JESSICA: "Wait (turns around to look at the van) Where is Dale?"

SHERIFF BRACKETT: "No time for that now. We'll look for him later."
